Item Description
Indian Mutiny, a framed display of hand-painted button miniatures of 6 Indian leaders who escaped execution after the Indian mutiny, c. 1860, circular head and shoulders miniatures painted on mica and mounted on card, diameter of each 10mm, laid out in two rows on a manuscript page including numbered identification of the sitters and their fates, writing now partly indistinct but fairly legible, paper toned and laid on card, framed and glazed in a period maple frame. 28.5/20/2cm

1 (Maun Singh ‘pardoned’;
2 [Ali Bahadur II] Nawab of Banda, ‘pardoned’;
3 (Ummer Sing[h], ‘still at large’;
4 ([Kuwar] Koor Sing[h] [Rajah of Jagdespur], ‘died of [?] after fighting very bravely against us’;
5 ([Bahadur Shah II] King of Delhi, ‘transported’;
6 ([Mirza Wajid Ali Shah], King of Oudh, ‘living in [?]abode in Calcutta…’.
