Item Description

A rather curios item, a small shard of period fabric together with an old hand written note and envelope relating to Marie Antoinette.

The hand written note reads "a piece of the gown in which Marie Antoinette was beheaded in given to me by Mr Blackwell in the year 1829".

The section of fabric is approximately 7cm in length, along with the envelope and note housed in a later period glazed frame.

Recently acquired via a deceased estate, and unfortunately no further information to be had.

Who knows if Antoinette was beheaded in the gown, or if Mr Blackwell was playing something like an Aprils fools or trying to impress the recipient, but either way a fascinating little thing.

21/17/2cm
