A busy oil on canvas interior scene showing an exaggerated early 19th century social scene in the naïve self taught style.

A military/naval officer is showing off his wooden leg in the centre of the painting, with his wee dog, a chap playing the flute, a lady spinning yarn surrounded by kitchenalia. food and what appears to be a cook.

Dated in the top left with GRIII on a hanging satchel.

In all round good condition, age related wear and consistent craquelure to the surface. Housed in a burr maple frame and gilt slip, the original lap jointed stretcher is strong and taught some elderly patch repairs are evident on the back.

Early 19th century in age, English in origin.
