Item Description
A 19th Century hoe with bone handle belonging to Mr John Jennison, the man who set up the Belle Vue Zoological gardens in Manchester which opened in 1836 together with a photograph of Mr Jennison with hoe in hand.
He was said to have walked the extensive grounds seeking out stray weeds with his hoe as he went.
Age related discolouration, knocks and abrasions, the hoe has been well used with heavy wear to the steel end.
Hoe 110cm h. Framed photograph 65cm x 54cm.
