Item Description
A unusual pigment and oil on board portrait of an elderly Chinese gent by Susan Jayne Hocking
The painting has a ghostly, distorted feel due to the application and use of pure pigment, the piece has a hand written label on reverse. Unfortunately its faded but the artist name and date is just about legible.
Provence, the piece was purchased from the Sir David Wing-cheung Tang collection
(B. 1962, England) British artist Susan Jayne Hocking was born in 1962 in Dorset; she attended Bristol Polytechnic where she did her B.A in 1985. After a postgraduate diploma Hocking went on to a postgraduate degree at the Royal Academy Schools between 1987 – 1990.
During this time, Hocking participated in exhibitions such as Ten Young Artists at the Mall Gallery, Women in Art at the Bowmoore Gallery, London, Tabernacle Gallery, London & Blenheim Gallery, London among others.
Susan Jayne Hocking continued to exhibit at many notable galleries, both in London & worldwide. Including the Nomadic Zone Gallery, Berlin, France & Spain, the New Grafton Gallery & the Waterhouse Group & R.B. Sandell. Whilst annually continuing to have work selected into the Royal Academy Summer Exhibitions.
We have reframed the piece in a simple and of age ebonised pine frame, as we thought the original gold leaf finish (as shown in the photos) was just to much, but the painting can be rehoused in its original frame if desired.
Frame measurements 47cm in height, 42cm in width, 2.5cm in depth
