Item Description
A rather tongue-in-cheek reverse painting and gilt doubled sided trade sign, reading "CHEAP FUNERALS" flippant to say the least.
The sign shows signs of age related wear, as you would expect. The sign is doubled sided glass with a typical wooden caucus wrapped in a wrought iron and riveted frame, two original iron hanging hooks.
The sign was used in the adaptation of Dickens 1838 novel Oliver Twist (1948) and is seen in the scene when Oliver meets Mr Sowerberry.
Its possibly the sign was produced solely for the film, my view is it predates the film due to the construction and has all quality's of an early 20th century trade sign. Either way a wonderful cheeky decorative item.
