Item Description

An exceptional set of 10 mouth handblown and hand wrought amber, white and clear glass wine or water goblets by master craftsman. Anthony Stern (1944-2022). Each exquisite glass is a work of art, carefully mouth blown and wrought with molten glass to create a set of individually matched wine glasses, each glass has the full etched ‘Anthony Stern’ signature to the base. Each a massive 18.5cm in height and hold approx 300ml. (Matching champagne flutes available separately). One amber wine glass has an internal fissure to the base, but this does not affect its beauty of use and might have formed when it was made.

Anthony Stern was originally a British experimental filmmaker. He first started making films while at Cambridge University, then worked as assistant to the avant-garde documentary film maker Peter Whitehead. Pursuing his fascination with colour and materials through which light passes, Stern completed an MA at the Royal College of Art in Glass and became a glass maker. His work is included in the collections of Queen Elizabeth II, Sir Elton John, the Saudi Royal Family (Red Sea Palace), the Victoria & Albert Museum, Sir Derek Jacobi, and the Broadfield House Glass Museum, as well as crafting lighting collections for both Porta Roman and Todhunter Earle and commissioned glassware for The Wolsey restaurant, Piccadilly. Anthony's work as a glass artist was also the subject of the film 'Lit From Within: The Art of Anthony Stern'.
