Item Description
An exemplary example of a Victorian 19th Century Stourbridge etched glass amphora claret jug designed by Joseph Keller for Stevens & Williams, Stourbridge, England Circa 1870s.
Superbly crafted, the artisan used a hand wheel to engrave the intricate design of butterflies, ferns and a beautiful spiders web, all glistening as if in the morning dew. There is a hand applied handle and frilled neck collar and the pedestal base has been folded at the rim and has a snapped pontil to the underside. This outstanding antique piece is in perfect condition.
Josef Keller was born in Bohemia in 1850 and started work for Stevens and Williams in 1871. His fine detailed engraving is recognised as some of the best ever produced.
