Item Description
An outstanding quality pair of chunky, twisted, clear glass candlesticks, designed and signed to the base by the important Venetian glass artist, Archimede Seguso, Circa 1980s Murano, Venice, Italy. These substantial and heavy weight candlesticks have been hand wrought by twisting the stems into a rope, with the candle holder set within deep bowls to catch dripping wax. Rare to find and stunning on a dining table these are excellent vintage candlesticks in perfect condition.
Archimede Seguso (1909–1999) was one of the 20th century’s master Venetian glassmakers. He was a key figure in the survival and revival of traditional glassblowing techniques in Murano, Italy. Original in his designs yet consistently mindful of the legacy of glassmaking, Seguso crafted a timelessly tantalising array of glass pieces throughout his career. His masterful glass creations still found today in numerous international collections and museums, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Corning Museum of Glass.
