Mappin & Webb has a rich history, dating back to 1775 when Jonathan Mappin started a silver workshop in Sheffield. In 1860, John Mappin founded Mappin & Company in London, later becoming Mappin, Webb & Co. In 1862, the first store opened on Oxford Street, London, offering silverware, candelabras, and vanity products. The company expanded to jewelry design and acquired Mappin Brothers in 1903. By the 1950s, the Regent Street store became more successful, and the headquarters shifted there in 1956. Internationally, stores were established in Johannesburg, Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and more starting from the 1890s.
