Item Description
A Charming Grand Scale George II Giltwood Overmantel Mirror. The delicate walnut, giltwood and gesso frame flanked with oak leaf decoration. Anthemion honeysuckle provides attractive detail to its lower corners. Inset with a large oil on canvas painting depicting a romantic Italianate landscape. A couple seated with hound beneath a tree to the foreground draw the eye beyond to a winding estuary. The river banks dotted with various villas, churches and castles while trade ships and rowing boats meander through the mountainous landscape. A lovely painting with warm colours and detail. The whole with three plate mirror to its lower section which is nicely foxed. Sitting on a large mantel the mirrors will come into their own with candle light reflecting in them. The piece would also work well as a stand-alone hung in a hall, bedroom, bathroom or lounge.
