Item Description
This is a magnificent pair of Italian Baroque columns that date from the 17th century. Once they were a part of a grand interior of a Sicilian palace and are entirely hand carved from wood and gilded. Through their impressive age - of more that 350 years old - some of the gilding has flaked away creating in the process a mesmerising timeworn patina of astonishing appeal, like no other. It is this distressed allure that in my opinion brings forward their true beauty and splendour today. These are tall and free standing columns, each one measuring about 110 x 18 x 18 cm or approximately 43.3 x 7 x 7 inches that would look just exquisite in a stylish and unique interior, classical or contemporary. Such items are exceptional when displayed on their own or in combination with other decorative items [such as plants, curiosities or works of art] in order to create an awe-inspiring interior exhibit. They are exactly as I discovered them. For the full condition please refer to the images!
