Item Description
A striking 1920s glazed stoneware pelican bird bath attributed to Leeds Fireclay Co. (LEFCO). Though unstamped, the stoneware is finished with a mottled grey-brown glaze typical of LEFCO works.
Topped with a shallow round bird bath decorated with floral rosettes, the statuary pelican is crafted in the Art Deco style, the design comprising of angular forms and straight lines characteristic of the period.
Thought to be after a design by celebrated late 19th / early 20th century designer Archibald Knox (1864-1933), this bird bath is unlike any example with have seen before. An unusual subject with an impressive personality, this antique pelican bird bath will be a welcome character to any garden or courtyard.
