Item Description
A superbly carved, early 17th century decorative Renaissance walnut wall panel mounted within a carved oak frame, sourced from a private UK collection.
Originating from Florence, Italy, this panel reputedly depicts the story of Rebecca and the Camel Test. Depicted to the central panel are various figures with sweeping gestures in high relief including a horse and rider, alongside two camels, one with rider, and two further figures. This is framed by an oak frame, carved with stylised egg and dart to the edges and acanthus leaves to the corners.
The panel is to be celebrated for its quality and intricacy of carving, the figures still distinguishable after more than 400 years. The warm honey colour of the wood is equally as appealing, making a handsome wall art piece for a reception room or study.
CONDITION REPORT
Good structural condition. Loss to one foot, one hand and the back of some drapery to the right hand side. Approximately 20 or so old, inactive worm holes scattered throughout. Two filled screw holes to the sides of the outer frame where it was previously screwed onto a wall.
