Item Description

A large reclaimed veneered malachite table top originating from North Africa.

This is a striking piece depicting the exceptional vibrant mineral over a base of onyx.

Malachite has a striking form that has been moulded by nature over thousands of years, showcasing a rich green colour with areas of darker shades.

The process behind displaying malachite in this impressive way leads the mineral to be selected in a raw state, then sawn into thin slices, which are chosen to fit together into a unique pattern, finished with an elegant polish.

This table tops pattern is complimented by its size. You can just imagine it as a central feature in period and contemporary settings alike, perhaps as a coffee table in an elegantly decorated reception room.

Malachite

Malachite was one of the first ores used to produce Copper metal. While rich in colour, appearance and habit is considered important for these specimens.

The vivid green colour, bright polished lustre, banding and eyes of malachite make it very popular as a gemstone. It is cut into polished decorative ornaments, sliced into inlay material, and sculpted into ornamental objects, much like this striking table top.

CONDITION REPORT

Good structural condition. Very minor scuffs and nibbles. Naturally made, prehistoric specimen formed by nature over millions of years. Formations, variations and markings are natural and are to be celebrated as features of each specimen.
