Item Description
With its beautifully hand carved tablet and intricate details, this wooden fireplace circa 1880 in the Georgian style is a spectacular surround for a large room. It features a rich caramel brown colour that instils a space with warmth and highly decorative carved details throughout. A breakfront shelf, fluted columns and egg and dart detailing around the opening are synonymous with Georgian styles. On the frieze, a female mask is carved between two horns of plenty, also referred to as cornucopias. These are said to symbolise prosperity and abundance according to Greek folklore and perhaps tells us something more about the provenance of this oak fireplace surround… Whatever it’s story, this antique oak fireplace becomes a feature of a space with its superb craftsmanship and hand carved details.
