Item Description
A striking natural rough zeolite specimen with elements of mica, presented on one of our museum-quality painted plaster bases.
Zeolite can be found in various shapes, sizes and colours with a wonderful cage-like lattice structure - this specimen in particular is a large irregular shape with well defined channels and cavities.
In the 18th century, Swedish mineralogist Axel Fredrik Cronstedt discovered zeolite and named it after the Greek words zéō meaning 'to boil' and líthos meaning ‘stone'.
With its intriguing natural character this mineral would make an impressive sculptural piece in any property or collectors cabinet.
