Item Description

A pair of antique English pendant lights by Faraday & Son of London. These beautiful nickel plated, frosted glass pendant lights were reclaimed from Hambledon House in North Yorkshire. The ceiling fixture that holds each pendant is made up of 3 pieces, allowing the overall height to be reduced if required.

FARADAY & SON

Established in circa 1823, Faraday & Son was founded by Robert Faraday, brother of Michael Faraday, the famous English scientist who contributed greatly to the study of electromagnetics (1791-1867). The firm was located in Wardour Street, London W1. After Robert's death, the business passed to his son James before his grandson Harold in 1875, at which point it became known as 'Messrs. Faraday & Sons'. Their light fixtures proved very popular and even received a favourable review in the August 1890 edition of 'The Art Journal'. In 1919, the company merged with another firm specialising in chandeliers, becoming Osler and Faraday Ltd.
