Item Description
A pair of small, late 19th century stained glass window or wall hangings in the shape of shields originating from Germany. One depicts a heraldic design with two owls – a symbol of wisdom – above a band of stylised white roses and horseshoes. The other depicts a cheetah or leopard above the words ‘Ohne Hast, Ohne Rast’. This translates to ‘Without Haste, Without Rest’ and is the title of a poem about work and labour by mid 18th and early 19th century German poet and playwright Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Together, this pair of antique stained glass wall hangings bring historical interest to an interior. Each are affixed with strings, ready for hanging in a sunlit window, conservatory or sun room.
