Item Description
A pair of handcarved mid 17th century oak wall panels with a handsome, even patina and string for hanging. Each are of beautiful quality after more than 370 years and well-carved for the period, other decorative pieces of the era often simpler and more naive.
The square wall panels both depict a bust within a stylised wreath; one handcarved with a man with beard and the other a woman with hair pinned back. The figures face one another, perhaps once designed as part of a marriage panel.
The quality of these panels is certainly to be celebrated, the carving and colour having stood the test of time for almost four centuries. Together, they will look stunning on the walls of a period interior as well as a neutral, modern space alongside complementary dark wood furniture.
Dimensions are for each panel.
