Item Description
A set of four antique Jacobean style English oak pilasters.
Dating to circa 1830, these impressive panels are carved with mannerist ornaments and strap work.
The original finish creates a natural finish that adds to the neoclassical style and highlights the artistic craftsmanship.
As a set, they would make striking decorative wall art for a period home looking to add style and grandeur.
Provenance: Hassop Hall, Derbyshire
Hassop Hall
Hassop Hall was the home of the Eyre family from the late 15th century and was entirely rebuilt in 1827-1833.
Francis Eyre had the title of the Earl of Newburgh in 1814 before the estate passed to Col C S Leslie of Balquhain by marriage in the mid 19th century.
During the Civil War Rowland Eyre turned it into a Royalist garrison and the house was the scene of several battles.
In more recent years, it was owned by the Chapman family, who it as a wedding and conference venue, while keeping the interiors elegantly maintained. Now it has become a luxury family home with its dwellers continuing to keep its history alive.
These pilasters are an element of the hall's story looking to find a new home where their history and aesthetic will too be appreciated.
