Item Description
An elegant set of 3 late Georgian era white statuary marble plaques in a neoclassical style, originally used as decoration for the frieze of a fireplace. Dating to circa 1800, these plaques are over 220 years old and are in beautiful condition for their age, the statuary marble still crisp and white in colour, showcasing the carving in great detail.
The larger tablet depicts a reclining Venus, Roman Goddess of love and beauty, being fed fruit by a winged cherub, possibly Cupid. The other two smaller marble plaques are similar in theme, each carved with putti: one playing musical instruments and the other eating grapes.
Styled together or individually, these three antique neoclassical tablets are sophisticated decorative pieces for an interior, showcasing the excellent craftsmanship of 1800s England.
