Item Description

An attractive 19th century Biot jar. "Biot" is a style of pottery which dates back to the 16th century, named for the town where they originated, near Cannes in the south of France. "Jarres de Biot" (biot jars) are hand made from a mixture of red and grey clay. The jars are distinctive for their shape and their glaze usually around the opening. They were used to preserve olives or store flour. This particular one has some old surface repairs and we would recommend that it is only used in the house and not in the garden. The price reflect the repairs which can be clearly seen in the last two pictures.
CONDITION

The biot is structurally sound but has two surface repairs which can been seen in the photos. These were caused by frost damage and we would recommend that it is only used as a decorative item inside the home.
