Item Description
A Bronze figure by Ferdinand Barbedienne (6 August 1810–21 March 1892) Depicting a male figure of the Berlin Adorante, or Praying Boy. The piece is a reduction of the Hellenistic-era original, currently in the Altes Museum in Berlin, by Lysippos or his circle. The figure stands on his left foot, the right leg gracefully bending and his arms raised with the palms facing upwards. Signed “F. Barbedienne. Fondeur,” on the base. In very good and original condition. 560mm high, 200mm wide and 240mm deep. French. Circa 1860
Ferdinand Barbedienne was a French metalworker and manufacturer, who was well known as a bronze fonder.
