Item Description
A Georgian period pocket box, cleverly made using ox horn which has been worked and stained to successfully imitate tortoiseshell; the rim of the lid is made using Sheffield Plate, now largely copper. This too would have imitated the considerably more expensive silver of its day.
English, Birmingham or Sheffield, circa 1780.
