Item Description

A pair of mahogany candle-stands, one with a set-screw, the other with a push and bind equivelant. Although made as a pair they may have been made some years apart, hence the different method used to hold the adjusted height of the tops.
It is likely that these stands, with their lead-filled bases, were most often used in a bed-chamber, and to take a chamber stick. Pinto states that they were usually made in pairs, (one for either side of the bed), and the tray has a diameter similar to most chamber-sticks.
English circa 1800.
