Item Description

A View of Pont Neuf, the Mint etc aquatint, printed in brown, by Frederick Christian Lewis after the original work and with etching by Thomas Girtin.
Thomas Girtin (1775 –1802) was an English painter and etcher. A friend and rival of J. M. W. Turner, Girtin played a key role in establishing watercolour as a reputable art form. Image 23 in x 9.5 in. Within a modern, high quality, hand finished frame. 29 in x 15.5 in.
Frederick Christian Lewis (1779 - 1856) was an eminent early nineteenth century painter, etcher, aquatint and stipple engraver. He was a pupil of Stadler and studied at the Royal Academy Schools. He first gained notice in 1803 with his aquatints after Thomas Girtin’s designs which were published under the title of, Twenty of the most Picturesque Views in Paris and its Environs; the present work offered being one of these.
