Item Description
An intriguing portrait of Comtesse Blanche Thibaudeau Wyatt painted by her sister, the artist Cornélie Emma De Vivefay Wyatt. Depicted three-quarter length before a red curtain and carved marble bust. Painted oil on canvas, inscribed lower left ‘Wyatt Vivefay’, within a fine period frame, gilded, with a scotia sight, running bead, hollow, carved ribbon and burnished plain outer edge.

Comtesse Blanche Thibaudeau was the daughter of Captain William Thomas Wyatt (1787-1830) and Antoinette Charlotte Hortense de Vivefoy (1788-1869). She was married to Adolphe Narcise Thibaudeau in Paris, 1848. Adolphe Thibaudeau was a collector of Old Master drawings and paintings and an author on his subject, (28 works). The couple are both buried in Versailles.
Cornélie Emma De Vivefay Wyatt was born in 1816 at Rouen, France and baptised on 13 August 1835 at Sundridge, Kent in England.
Like her teacher Michel Stohl (1813-1881), she specialized in painting portraits and genre scenes, making watercolour copies of works by painters both contemporary and from previous eras. Based in Paris, she exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français from 1831 to 1875. She signed all her works under the name of Wyatt de Vivefay. She died unmarried in Paris on November 15, 1898.
