Item Description
In the finest homes across Europe, salts were the art of the greatest goldsmiths and silversmiths of their time. In the homes of the more common yeoman, salts were likely to be made of wood; treen, in this instance, a nicely turned fruitwood example, the foot, offering end grain and thereby often chipped and damaged, is in fine condition. The turner has given this salt a band of three rings around its circumference, offering a better grip when passed between diners. Probably English and eighteenth century.
3 1/8 in high x 3 ¼ in dia.
