Item Description
A pair of very large traditional earthenware Pots from South-Western France for preserving Ducks and Geese in their own fat. Known as Confit Pots -for both 'Confit d'Oie' (preserved goose) and 'Confit de Canard' (duck),- the birds are cooked in a slow oven for several hours and then traditionally put into the pot and their fat then poured over them, after which they are preserved by storing in a cool place like a cellar until the time comes to re-fry them in their fat with white beans or potatoes.
The beautiful original pots are late 19th century, and show great patina with wear from the years of useage. Despite the numerous markings and chippings on the glaze the pots are stable and without any cracks or serious damage.
Measuring 11 inches tall x 7 wide
