Item Description
A very fine and elegant early 19th-century George IV period rosewood pedestal fold-over card table. The table features a beautifully figured rosewood D-shaped folding top with rounded corners. The top swivels and folds open to reveal a green baize-lined playing surface, offering both elegance and practicality. The break-front frieze is adorned with shaped scrolled ends, while the edges of the top and the quatrefoil concave-sided base are decorated with intricately carved 'split-reel' mouldings. The table is raised on a tapering oblong pedestal with a knulled collar, supported by a quad-form base with hipped, outswept legs terminating in brass castors. All mechanisms function perfectly, ensuring this piece is not only a stunning decorative item but also fully functional. Crafted from a high-grade, finely figured rosewood, it boasts a rich patina, highlighting its exceptional craftsmanship and timeless appeal.
