Signed R. J. Wyatt Fecit Roma
Condition: in very good condition, it has been outside for a long time, so has sugaring to the surface, with some staining, no losses or breaks, couple of small nibbles to the base.
Richard James Wyatt (1795-1850.)
Wyatt trained in Rome at the workshops of Antonio Canova and Bertel Thorvaldsen. He became a highly important Neoclassical sculptor, the original Nymph going to the bath was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1831. Commissions included Musidora for William Cavendish, the 6th Duke of Devonshire, for Chatsworth House and a marble statue of Penelope for Albert, the Prince Consort, at Windsor Castle, both still in situ.
