Item Description
A beautifully patinated green glazed terracotta urn from the village of Castelnaudary, France c.1890.
The famous pottery houses were renowned for their rustic garden urns featuring a green glazed body decorated with lobed handles connected to a tapering belly and resting on a circular base with a drainage hole.
This unique and beautiful form was originally designed as jardinieres specifically for citrus trees, with handles enabling transportation into an orangery or glasshouse for the Winter months, but can be enjoyed in any interior simply for their pleasing rustic primitive shape and stunning colour.
The smaller size of this urn makes it perfect as an interior sculptural object, or filled with flowers or house plants or a little citrus tree in the light from your window.
