Item Description

Early 18th.c. walnut bureau c.1720. Very well figured English walnut veneered exterior with inlaid feather or herringbone banding. Open the fall to reveal a baize lined work surface (height 29") and fitted interior of pigeon holes and four small drawers arranged around a lockable central compartment. Plus four cleverly hidden secret compartments. With two short and three long drawers of graduated height below the desk. Oak drawer linings. Note the grain of the drawer bases running front to back, the rounded tops to the drawer sides and the cockbeading attached to the carcass rather than to the drawer fronts; all indicative of very early 18th.c. cabinet making. The handles are later but well chosen replacements of unusual shape and decoration. Good deep crossbanded ogee moulding around the base and shaped bracket feet to the front and sides. Some wear to the finish, generally excellent condition, restored cleaned and waxed in our workshops. Keys supplied.
