Item Description
Stunning late 18th.c. Italian inlaid walnut box settle or hall seat c.1780. Backrest with raised mouldings and marquetry work panels laid onto a solid walnut board. Swept arms with beautifully carved lion's mask terminals and raised on scrolling supports. Over a seat (height 21") with quartered walnut veneers, lifting to reveal useful storage inside for boots and shoes etc. Front and sides below the seat decorated with dense marquetry decoration and raised mouldings to superb effect. Again the groundwork is solid walnut. Deep moulded plinth around the bottom edge and raised on four large carved claw feet. Some minor old wear and repairs, generally excellent colour and condition, cleaned and waxed in our workshops.
