Item Description
Early Heriz carpets from Northwest Persia are in a class of their own. Prized for their geometric designs, fine durable construction and creative use of vegetable-dyed colours, they make ideal long-lasting rugs, and have always stood out for their striking tribal motifs. In our experience, Heriz carpets prove to be among the most versatile decorative weavings, with the ability to unite both modern and traditional design elements in a room.
This particular piece, dating to around 1920, features an open, all-over design rather than the typical central medallion, giving it an expressive and dynamic feel. The graphic motifs are crafted in shades of cornflower blue and ivory, set against a soft terracotta background, and framed by a wide border. All the colours have been rendered with natural vegetable dyes that have gracefully aged, taking on a charming patina.
Preserved in very good practical condition for everyday use, with its borders intact on all sides—a remarkable feat for a rug of this age.
A stunning carpet to complement a wide range of interior styles.
