Item Description
Antique Northwest Persian Runner
4.54 x 1.20 m
‘North West’ refers to a myriad group of villages with weaving styles borrowed from a wide range of influences from the surrounding regions, particularly Turkey and the Caucasus, and often including unique, tribal interpretations of sophisticated workshop weavings from further South.
This fine c. 1910 example is woven in high-grade hand-spun wool, with wonderful organic dyed - the medallion pattern is creatively repeated across the central field in a range of different colours and forms, including tones of cornflower blue, sage green and ochre red, and is framed by an equally creative sky blue border; a spontaneous, characterful design.
Retained in excellent condition for everyday use, with its outer borders preserved on all sides.
A charming tribal piece, to suit a wide variety of settings.
