Item Description
Antique Veramin Carpet
2.93 x 2.10 metres
Antique Veramin carpets are renowned as some of the finest Persian workshop weavings. They are celebrated for their exceptional quality, intricate designs, rich variety of vegetable-dyed colors, and unique patterns that distinguish them from carpets of neighboring regions.
The enchanting pomegranate blossom lattice design of this Veramin carpet from the early 1900s traces its origins to 18th-century Azerbaijani rugs and symbolizes prosperity, fertility, and longevity. As an earlier piece, it features a high-quality weave made with lustrous wool, possibly Merino, which gives its overall pattern a crisp clarity. The composition is well-balanced, with the central field framed by an unusually wide terracotta border, creating a sense of space and harmony. The restrained palette includes soft ochre red and cornflower blue tones, set against a rare ivory field, which serves as a charming backdrop to the design.
This carpet has been preserved in very good condition, with its borders intact on all sides, making it suitable for everyday use – its vegetable dyed colours have taken on a characterful patina with age.
A timeless piece with a real feeling of understated elegance, to complement a wide variety of interior styles.
