Item Description
Antique Baktiar Carpet, c. 1900
2.90 x 2.00 m
Baktiar carpets, woven in Northwest Persia, are well known as among the most distinct, and thus highly sought after, Persian weavings, thanks to their unique combination of the playful, geometric designs of nomadic and tribal rugs, and the grand scale and high quality craftsmanship one would expect of a Persian workshop piece.
This interesting early Baktiar carpet has a bold graphic drawing and an attractive, soft terracotta field, which serves to compliment the creative overall drawing and array of vegetable-dyed colours. It is framed by three individual borders.
With some minor age-related patina/wear, though in good practical condition for everyday use. It retains original borders all sides.
A decorative example with a tribal charm and character to blend in a stylish setting.
