Item Description
Fine Bidjar Carpet, Handwoven in Iran
2.85 x 2.42 m
Antique Bidjar carpets from Northwest Persia are famed amongst Persian tribal village rugs for the quality of their weaves and striking designs and colours. Bidjar is situated in a corridor between the borders of Persia, Anatolia, and the Caucasus, and its weaving tradition showcases a wide variety of cultural influences, reflected in the diverse range of styles and patterns in its carpets.
This attractive Bidjar carpet is an excellent recreation of 19th Century examples, finely hand woven with well-aged vegetable-dyed colours and handspun wool, some time in the last 25 years. The drawing is well-proportioned and spacious in relation to its format. The terracotta field beautifully complements the rich palette in its design, framed by a wide ivory border.
Retained in excellent condition, a wonderful piece, with a modern aesthetic sensibility, to suit a wide variety of settings.
