Item Description
This impressive Tabriz carpet is attributed to the Hadji Jallili atelier which is world-renowned for creating highly sought-after carpets in Persia. The rare ivory field provides a great backdrop to the array of natural-dyed colours, framed by an artistic border that is generous in width. An elegant Tabriz carpet with a high density of knot engenders the clarity of the crisp drawing.
Many of these pieces are seen in grand historic houses both in Europe and the UK.
The city of Tabriz in north west Persia has been a major city of fine weaving since the 14th century. It experienced an artistic revival at the end of the 19th century and saw the emergence of one of the most important and influential Master weavers of the era, Hadji Jallili. He created magnificent court carpets with his unique creative drawings using light colour palettes and impeccable workmanship making them much sought after by interior designers and collectors. The best Tabriz carpets of this era are attributed to him and his workshop.
In very good practical condition for everyday use. This attractive example has still retained its outer border on all sides – a rare feature for a large rug dating to the late 19th century.
A wonderful example of its type with a discreet elegance to blend in a variety of settings.
