Item Description
Unusual Antique Karabagh Runner
3.41 x 1.05 m
Antique Karabagh rugs are much sought after by collectors and designers as they boast some of the oldest and most varied designs of all Caucasian weavings, and represent perhaps the finest in quality and artistry amongst pieces from this region.
This runner, dating to c. 1900, is one of the most beautiful examples of its type which we have had the pleasure of coming across in a long time. The high-density of knots in its weave engenders a crisp clarity to its drawing, with features an unusual floral motif, repeated across the field in a wide variety of forms and colours, framed by a wide terracotta border - a strikingly creative design, with a real sense of charming spontaneity.
Retained in very good to excellent condition for everyday use, this runner's vegetable-dyed colours have taken on a delicate patina with age, lending the piece an understated grace.
A very handsome runner, which would add personality and style to any setting.
