Item Description
A Sophisticated Early 18th Century English George I Period Walnut Wing Chair Circa 1720.
This fabulous, rare, original chair, with its high back and delicately outscrolling arm supports, epitomises the elegance of the furniture of George I period. The bowed seat extends beyond the arms, showing that this was a chair made by an experienced maker and designed with comfort in mind.
The walnut elements of this chair are of exceptional colour and patination. The front legs have an elegant cabriole shape and carved detailing in the form of a raised triangular section to the knees. The back legs are also of cabriole form, a good sign of high quality, and have a very distinct rake to them. All of the legs are joined by an unusually sophisticated stretcher that consists of a series of elegant turned sections.
Upholstered by us, to an under finish, in antique hessian, ready for outer fabric covering. The style suits all manner of interiors, working as well in contemporary settings as it does in more traditional ones.
