Item Description
A Mid 18th Century Scottish Mahogany Open Armchair of Good Size. c.1760-1770.
This chair with its saddle seat and shaped back is a fine example of a Scottish form. The outsplayed front legs seem to have been a feature that was particular to Scottish makers of this period. The front legs on this model have an unusual central moulding. The legs are joined by finely turned H stretchers, a sign of a high quality maker. The arm terminals are beautifully shaped and the chair stands beautifully. A distinctive take on one of the most popular and collected forms of British seat furniture from this period.
The chair is currently upholstered to an underfinish, ready for the customer's choice of fabric to be applied.
