Item Description
This exquisite antique rosewood Davenport desk, dating back to circa 1830, is a stunning example, showcasing the finest construction and materials of the period.
In very good condition, this desk has been meticulously cared for, with the rich, warm colour of the rosewood revived through careful waxing, enhancing its natural beauty.
The desk features a raised gallery top, providing a refined and functional boundary to the writing surface. Beneath the gallery, the fall-front writing area opens to reveal a newly fitted, hand-dyed green leather inset. The hinged lid not only provides access to the writing area but also hides a set of thoughtful storage options. Inside, you’ll find two small stationary drawers, one of which contains a secret locating pin that, when activated, reveals an additional hidden drawer, perfect for storing private documents or treasures. Along with these, there is a generous storage space to accommodate other items.
The front of the desk is beautifully panelled, adding depth and elegance to its overall design. On the right-hand side, there are four fully functioning drawers, offering ample storage for papers, pens, and personal items. On the left-hand side, there are four dummy drawers that mirror the right side, maintaining the desk’s symmetry and visual appeal.
The desk sits upon solid, turned rosewood legs, which are finished with stylish brass casters for ease of movement, combining both beauty and functionality.
