Item Description
Antique, cushioned, Venetian mirror with layered mercury glass frame, circa 1840. The edges of the outer section of the frame are decorated with alternating long and short scallop cuts and the inner frame has small scallop cut edges. At each corner these narrower frame sections are decorated with curvy, triangular leaf-shaped glass pieces held in place with three glass flowers which are secured with little diamond-cut glass-topped screws. The central frame section has a pair of fanned leaves on each side of the join, held with an arrow-shaped glass leaf. Another glass leaf piece holds the central section of frame in place mid-way down each long side. The mirror is topped with an open, scrolling cartouche with a double fanned leaf centre and the whole mirror is encased in a narrow, black painted, wooden border. The original, central bevelled glass has just a very little light age and sparkles beautifully when the mercury glass catches the light. It is rare to find a mirror from this period in such good, original condition.
