Item Description
This spectacular textile is a Buyi minority quilt top. It is hand loomed in cotton and silk, dating to the first half C20 and is a very rare pattern, that we can't find replicated in any reference book.
These patterns are handed down in through the generations by memory and often there is no written record of it so they can easily be lost forever. The colours are all natural dyes.
The main brown colour which is the mineral dye senna, is joined with black, indigo, stone and pink. They have faded over the years and now present as a beautifully muted and natural palette.
The woven centre panel has a handwoven cotton border also in senna, and has its original fasteners around the edges which would be used to attach the quilt top and bottom.
The textile is mounted on a natural hemp which is stretched over a canvas frame. It is a very beautiful and interesting piece of wall art and would make a good talking point in any room scheme.
A perspex cover can be made for the frame, which will give it a more contemporary appearance and reduce the amount of UV light which is useful if the frame is hanging in direct sunlight. I can get a quote for this if required.
