Item Description
This is an exceptional antique portrait painting that dates from 1861. Discovered in Germany this remarkable oil on canvas painting is exquisite in its fine artistic quality as well as the fascinating beauty of the sitter. The details of this artwork are superbe: it is painted in the post Biedermeier period known for its refined beauty and elegance. The canvas is still on its original wood stretcher that measures about 61 x 51 cm or approximately 24 x 20 inches. It is signed and dated on the right side: 'Alfred R Diethe, Dresden, 1861'. Considering its age it is in lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing and exactly as I discovered it. Recently, the painting was framed as it was discovered originally without it. The frame is about 78.5 x 69.5 x 5.5 cm or 30.9 x 27.3 x 2.1 inches. For the full condition please refer ot the images!
Alfred Richard Diethe [1836 - 1919] was a German artist from Dresden. During his career between 1856 and 1904 he painted more than 220 portraits, including several of King Albert of Saxony.
