Item Description
This fabulous hand carved marble bowl was just discovered in Rome, Italy. Dating from the 18th century this magnificent treasure is carved masterfully in the form of a clam shell from a solid block of exquisite marble. Such bowls were used in the past as holy water fonts in churches but also in the gardens of grand palaces as parts of garden fountains, bird baths etc. On outside the marble is polished to perfection while the interior has slightly rough surface. This difference in texture makes it truly fantastic in my opinion. This is a highly decorative ancient treasure that measures about 8 x 20.5 x 22.5 cm or approximately 3.1 x 8 x 8.8 inches that is in great antique condition with minor signs of ageing. It is exactly as I discovered it. For the full condition please refer to the images!
PLEASE NOTE: I have two of these identical marble bowl - as shown on the last two images - if needed as a pair or a symmetrical interior display.
