Item Description
Annunciation refers to the announcement made by the archangel Gabriel to Mary that she would conceive and bear a son through a virgin birth and become the mother of Christ. This story has been one of the most inspiring and frequent subjects of art for centuries. This art piece is one wonderful example of this story. It dates from the 19th century. It is a gorgeous hand sculpted fired clay sculptural relief with a stunning blue background [majolica art]. Archangel Gabriel and Mary are surrounded by a choir of angels positioned in an arch. This is a highly decorative and rare treasure that was just discovered in Florence, Tuscany, measuring about 21.5 x 37 x 3.5 cm or approximately 8.4 x 14.5 x 1.5 inches. It could stand free on the flat surface or be displayed on a wall [with a wire that is attached to it]. The back is signed by its maker Ugo Zaccagnini. In lovely antique condition with minor signs of ageing that in my opinion only brings forth its true beauty and splendour today. It is exactly as I found it.
